Open/Close Menu a website, archive and interactive space celebrating one of Britain's most innovative engineers and inventors, Frederick Lanchester

My background is in charity communications and managing IT projects in the voluntary and community sector, but after completing a Chemistry degree I began as a producer for community radio stations in Manchester’s thriving Northern Quarter. A two week temporary placement with the world’s oldest international conservation organization, Fauna & Flora International, turned into three years as part of their growing communications team.  I helped tell the inspiring conservation stories of endangered species from the Mountain Gorilla to the Antiguan Racer (a tiny snake!) through websites, events and publications. I was lucky enough to spend a couple of years in Hawaii, helping to trawl and digitise the photo archives of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory – and sample the odd active volcano.

Returning to the UK I worked with a rural regeneration charity to help other voluntary and community organisations make the most of their IT, sharing the power of blogs, social media and collaborative working. Since then I’ve helped build websites for charities, local authorities and businesses, been a STEM Ambassador, returned to my scientific roots and qualified as a secondary science teacher and now I am one of the Lanchester Outreach Workers helping to spread the word about the Lanchester Interactive Archive.

I’m looking forward to sharing the artifacts and stories of this remarkable man, using the exciting augmented reality and games that have been created to support the project. Every day there is a new tale or invention we discover that blows out minds! I love travelling and photography and try to combine the two whenever I can.  I’m also an enthusiastic (but technically flawed) village cricketer and am enjoying rediscovering my stash of Lego with my son, who I will also eventually beat at Carcassonne…
